Pastor’s Note on Building Our Future

Dear First UMC Members and Friends,

It’s all about our mission and ministry!

From the day I arrived to serve DeKalb First UMC and we launched our three-year “Help Build the Future” capital campaign, I have said the same thing: This effort to build a new facility is not just about a building, it’s about mission and ministry and accomplishing God’s purposes for our DeKalb community now and into the future.

Building a Building…is putting up a physical structure.

Building the Church…is expanding our circle to welcome new people.

Building God’s Kingdom…is accomplishing God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven.

We are doing all three — but the most important is the last one!  That’s why we have prayed diligently, “Lord, what do YOU want to do through us?”

How exciting to see God answering our prayers! How amazing that God has provided the resources through the generosity of our Church family to make the vision of an energy-efficient, flexible, adaptable ministry center for First UMC a giant step closer to reality!  I can’t wait to see what God will do through us as we approve the building plans and start the construction process!

“I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.”  (Phil 3:13b-14 – The Message)

In great hope and expectation,

Pastor Jon
