Worship Updates

Sunday, May 9, “A Faithful Mother” This week we explore the story from Matthew 15:21-28 when Jesus gave a second chance to a non-Jewish, Canaanite woman and her daughter after the mother’s persistence and faith. At first glance, Jesus appears to be rude and insulting to this woman who wouldn’t take “No” for an answer. We might need to ask when we act this way by too easily dismissing or ignoring the single-parents around us who are struggling to raise their children but doing everything they can to fight for them. May we be the healing hands and feet of Christ for each precarious family.

Two Options for Worship: In-Person and Livestream Online IN-PERSON WORSHIP: 9:00 AM Join us in the Church Sanctuary for a modified worship experience at 9AM this Sunday. Please review the many precautions we are taking to minimize the risks in gathering together. MASK wearing is required. Keep physically distanced from others not living with you. Hand sanitizer is available at each entrance. Here’s a link to a video the Melms family prepared for us that shows some of what to expect when we come together for worship: Worship Do’s and Don’ts. RESERVATIONS required to attend: Go to http://firstumc.net/reservations/ to sign up for your spot. To watch a tutorial on how the online reservation system works, follow this link: Reservation Tutorial. ONLINE WORSHIP: 9:00 AM – Our online worship Our online worship will be available as a livestream from the Church on our DeKalb First UMC Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/firstumcdekalbillinois) each Sunday at 9:00 AM. You will be able to see and hear what those attending in person experience. After the Worship is finished, a video of the service will be available on Facebook so you can watch later in the day or any time throughout the week if you miss Sunday morning. We are also posting a copy of the service on our DeKalb First UMC YouTube channel by Tuesday each week: First UMC YouTube Channel

TO LISTEN ON THE RADIO: If you are not able to attend or watch online, tune into WLBK radio (1360AM, 98.5FM or www.wlbkradio.com) Sundays at 9 AM. This recording will also be available on our website (www.firstumc.net) under the “Worship” tab by Tuesday or Wednesday following each service.

Sunday School has resumed in-person classes each Sunday. For details contact the Director of Christian Education.

Church Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 am until 3 pm.

Know Someone Who Is Graduating? Once again, graduation ceremonies look different this year, but we want to continue our tradition of celebrating all graduates by recognizing them in an upcoming Messenger newsletter. Graduates from high school, community college, tech school, university, grad school, etc. may be included. But we don’t know who they are unless you tell us. Find a printable form near the back of the newsletter at http://firstumc.net/news/messenger/ or complete the online information form at https://giving.ncsservices.org/App/Form/e1197eb8-393c-41fe-bc33-67094cef4986.
