This week’s announcements

BISHOP’S APPEAL A special Bishop’s Appeal offering  envelope available Sunday, October 20. All donations received through this special offering will be taken to the 2019 Special Budget Session of the NI Annual Conference in November and will benefit local farmers who are facing hardships due to a rainy, cold spring and a drought in July this growing season. The Keagy Town and Rural Committee will handle disbursing the money to the farmers who are struggling.

GIVING REPORTS Contribution reports for third quarter giving are available in the dining room on Sunday mornings or in the church office during the week. In order to save on postage and printing costs, reports were printed for only those who made a contribution in the third quarter. First and second quarter reports were distributed earlier this year. All donors will receive a contribution report at the end of the year.

SAVE THE DATE Church Conference is Tuesday, November 12, at 7 pm. Staff-Parish will meet at 6:30 pm that evening. All reports were due in the church office by October 15. If you have not yet submitted your report, please do so as soon as possible.

SERMON SHAPERS in-depth Bible study with preliminary ideas for the upcoming sermon. Led by the pastor. Wednesday, October 23, 10 am in the Heritage Room.

SPOOKTACULAR First UMC is participating in the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce’s Spooktacular trick-or-treat event Thursday, October 24, from 4:30 to 6 pm. Contact Vicki Boone to find out how you can help.

ATTIC TREASURES DROP-OFF Collection of items for the Treasures room of the Gifts, Treasures and Treats Holiday Event is each Saturday in October. Bring your gently used household items to the alley entrance #10 Saturday, October 26, between 9 and 10:30 am.

R.E.A.L COMMUNITY MEAL, a free meal served family-style with community guests and volunteers dining together. Held the fourth Sunday each month (except   December) 5 pm. Next meal: October 27. Sign-up to help at

SUNDAY SCHOOL RED BIRD MISSION COLLECTION Throughout the school year Christian Education is collecting items for Red Bird Mission. October’s collection item is 2-pocket folders. Place items in the appropriate box in the sanctuary or church office. A full list of items being collected can be found on our Children Education page.

BAKED GOODS NEEDED for the Bake Sale as part of the UMW Holiday Event, Saturday, November 9. Baked goods may be dropped off in the Fellowship Hall kitchen Friday, November 8, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm or on Event day by 9 am.
